01Project description

The aim of the project is to develop a portable breathalyser that allows noninvasive diabetes monitoring based on the analysis of the trace amounts of diabetes biomarkers (primarily acetone and ethylene, and also methanol, ethylbenzene and isoprene) in the exhaled air. Optionally, the device will be upgraded with a telemedicine module to collect readings in the app, provide reminders for self-checkups or alert a user when glucose levels are too high or too low.
Both the device's design and the way it functions are tailored to the needs of all diabetics, with a particular focus on those with mobility and visual impairments, which represent common long-term complications of diabetes. The biomarker analysis tool will not only increase the independence of the said group, but also introduce a comfort of self-checkup, in contrast to the common but invasive glucometer strips.

The project is co-financed by the National Centre for Research and Development within the framework of the “Accessibility Plus” programme, the agreement No. Rzeczy są dla ludzi/0089/2020.
